Wall hangings can be created from a wide variety of material ranging from fine linen to heavy weight jute.

Indian wall hangings are made of a variety of common materials: mud or clay, paper, cloth, wood and cane, metal (wrought iron, brass, bronze, copper), papier mache, glass, coir and jute.

Today, the rich artistic tradition of India is evident in resplendent jute wall hanging creations.

However, apart from authenticity, there is certain genuineness to every jute handicraft. And nowhere it is more marked than in jute wall hangings.

Since the primitive ages, wall hangings have been a part of the Indian culture.  In addition, the artisan is taken to a higher level with a combination of skill and craftsmanship.

In fact, every region of India has its unique style of creative expression manifested in an assortment of jute handicraft items, be it painting, sculpting, carving or embroidering.    For one, the region of Gujarat is famous for its embroidered jute wall hangings adorned with mirrors and beads.

Most jute wall hangings are painted, embroidered or embellished with appliqués and patch works of Indian art motifs.  These art works are also intricately designed using thread work, embossing, engraving, enameling, beveling and weaving techniques.

The coarse textures and earth tones of jute add a pleasant character to a room.  But so much for mere decorating, with jute wall hangings, walls are seemingly made to express a certain art theme.

Craftsmen's fascination for nature is notable in most designs.  Jute canvas, being a natural material, easily coordinates with most works of art rendered.

But there is an assortment of designs and patterns: geometric, architectural, floral, birds, animal, scenes from everyday life, court life scenes, gods and goddesses, mythological figures, and abstract designs.

Artist paint their favorite scene with acrylics on a jute canvas treated to appear aged and rustic.  Leather straps designed for a display rod is attached for a steady hang.
