Jute Industry India - Jute Packaging Materials

Jute industry India is notable on two counts: being the largest producer of raw jute in the world and the biggest manufacturer of jute goods in the world.

India's export history of raw jute and jute manufactures dates back to over 100 years.

The year 1854 marks a milestone in the history of jute industry in India when the first jute mill was set up by George Auckland at Rishra in Hoogly district of West Bengal.

For decades now, jute is used to make rope, paper, and coarse hand woven fabrics for matting and bedding.

Today the jute industry India sector, comprised of the organized jute industry, jute mills around 75 of them, and a large number of small scale industries and cottage units in the decentralized sector continually churn out an assortment of jute-based products:  twines, pulp and paper and allied fibers and particle board from jute stick.

Jute material is predominantly produced in eastern India particularly the states of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Orissa, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh.

As support, the Indian government has established comprehensive and world-class research and development facilities in the area of jute agriculture, product development and machinery design.

Manufacturers are employing innovative techniques to come up with specialty jute fabrics to meet the taste and requirements of demanding decorators and other end users.  From fine silk, finished fabrics, versatile furnishings and handicrafts to intricately designed rugs and carpets jute,

called golden fiber, is a versatile material. And the list goes on: moulded furniture, wall hangings, swing chairs, hammocks, flower pot holders, coasters, mats, blankets, slippers, shopping bags, wine bottle bags, sling bags, napkin rings, bead curtains, dolls, soft luggage, stationery, briefcases, skirts, jackets, lamp shades, floor runners, panels, boards, and a whole lot more.

Jute is also preferred for its durability.  On top of that, jute has earned appreciations for its natural attributes: 100% biodegradable, woven quality, suppleness, luster and clean earth tones.
