Hessian cloth or burlap is a plain woven fabric that possesses  a finer quality jute yarn.  The standard weight and size is 5 to 12 ounces a yard.

The packaging industry has long trusted this natural material for use in packaging all kind of goods.

Available in "dyed" or "bleached" form, Jute Hessian cloth is generally used for packing or wrapping materials for agricultural products such as wool, cotton and tobacco and also in the upholstery industry. When used to package edible food products, jute Hessian cloth is normally treated with vegetable oil to meet the requirements set by the international standards for food safety.

Hessian or burlap when manufactured in cloth form becomes a versatile material.  In fact it has found its way for use in other packaging options, more commonly in convenient shopping bags and fashionable handbags.  Today, creations using burlap has come to include Squares, Sheets, Liners, Tobacco Wraps, Tubing, Jute Hessian Blankets, among many others.

A plain Hessian cloth is woven from jute fabrics with single warp and weft.  But because buyers can be very fussy with specifications ranging from conventional to daring, plain to intricate, Hessian cloth has come appear in a wide variety of widths and weights, and in an assortment of fabric constructions and patterns: dyed or custom-printed, sewn, treated for rot-proofing, laminated or coated.

Burlap is outstanding for its physical properties.  On top of the consideration would be the strength of the jute material.  In proportion to construction, jute Hessian cloth or burlap is both impressive in tensile strength and tear resistance.

The cost advantage of burlap is apparent when the strength of the burlap bag, which can stand up rough handling in transit, is taken into consideration.  Burlap is also known to resists weathering.  Even, burlap can stand repeated wetting and drying with minimum loss of strength.

Users dont like it when their hand carried goods spill out as a result of destruction of the bag.  Economically speaking, less damage or breakage reduces handling costs.
