Jute geo textile, also called JGT, is a natural fiber engineering material fit for environmental requirements of various industries such as ports, railways, irrigation sections, coal fields, to name some.

Still, numerous types of jute geo textiles have been evolved and put to field tests in other industries, more recently in state public works included with road building. The unique, natural features of jute geo textiles satisfy technical and functional needs encompassing end uses for soil-connected problems to include soil consolidation, road construction, river bank and coastal protective work, construction of earthen embankments, slope management, soil erosion control, among many others.

Compared to synthetic geo textiles, jute is a natural choice.  The same can be said when costs are compared because jute geo textiles are actually a lot cheaper.  If long-term cost is calculated, the use of synthetic geo textiles, can translate to a more expensive procurement considering the environmental and bionomic loss generated by the non-biodegradable materials.

Because jute geo textiles are largely for use and contact to soil, it has been noted that the fertilizing effect of a buried, decaying jute the soil is beneficial.

Choosing jute geo textiles is a cost-effective option because geo-textiles can be recycled at least in India where used bags are mended when needed and redistributed to fit for other, several needs.

As much as jute geo textiles are validated to be effective in resolving number of geo technical problems, the high demand for jute geo textiles is also attributed to the jute material being a completely biodegradable material or better explained as "an agro-renewable natural resource."

It also follows that unlike synthetic fibers, jute geo textile does not emit toxic fumes when burnt, and in greater sense, does not tax the earth's dwindling energy resources.  General speaking, the increasing consciousness for eco-friendly products of growing end-users is raising the bar for jute industry.
